PRESUMED INNOCENT
For the moment, in Germany, ten people have died and there are several hundred ill people, mainly in Hambourg’s hospital. In Europa, there are other cases of illness but, they have a common point: they have all been in Germany recently. The guilty one is a very rare E-coli bacteria. It can be found in…cow’s digestive system. European scientists are working because they want to find the origin of the bacteria. First, they and the health authorities thought that the bacteria has come from the cucumbers. Now they think that the bacteria comes from the soya beans but they aren’t sure if it is right.
In France and in Europa, the farmres are very worried, because people don’t buy cucumbers and tomatoes. Tons of cucumbers are thrown out. It’s a big economic disaster for the farmers.
There are some ways to avoid the risk of contamination:
1. wash your hands with water and soap
2. wash the vegetables
3. peel the vegetables
4. wash your countertop
