Chrissa Stands Strong, Film Review by Anna

This film was one of the favourite series my daughter watched during the summer. She wanted to share it with her friends because of its relevance to their daily life. She wrote a film review, which on its turn, engaged another student into writing a review on another film that she liked. The two films had a common theme: friendship.

The exercise focused on vocabulary, extensive listening comprehension, writing skills, speaking skills, expressing opinions, debating.

The film that I will talk about today is a very good film, which shows you how to fight bullying.

This story is part of a film series An American Girl based on a book called Chrissa.

Chrissa Stands Strong is about a girl who has just moved in Edgewater in Minnesota so that her “Nana” (grandmother) does not stay alone.

Chrissa goes to a new school where a group bullies her and Gwen, a homeless ( sans abri).

Chrissa does not want to tell anyone that she is bullied, because she thinks that if she tells her parents that she is bullied, she will be more bullied, so she decides to keep it as secret. She also joins the school’s swimming team, with her brother Tyler. Tara the bullier will make Tyler jump from the diving board. Tyler jumps from the diving board, but he does not do it correctly and hits his head. He is taken to the hospital where his mom works .

The seasonal swimming competition is coming up and Chrissa comes back in time for the trainings so that she and Tara could work together and help their team to win. They realised that if they work together the entire team could win.

At the end of the story, Tara and Chrissa are still not friends but Tara does not bully any more anybody.
